Shishu Ladies of Hilo

In 1999 or 2000 I bought a book called Shishu Ladies of Hilo (Shiho S. Nunes & Sara Nunes-Atabaki, 1999 UH Press).  Fascinating book about a family (Yoshio Shinoda and Ima (Ogiso) Shinoda) and their life on Hawaii.  As an artist who dabbled in the Japanese art of shishu, I always wondered why the great emphasis on "traditional" Japanese motif.  I wondered if anyone had translated other kinds of motif to be rendered in shishu.  Apparently Yoshio Shinoda did for his wife Ima.  So sad that it was never popularized.  The art work is gorgeous.  I'll be going to Hilo in a couple of weeks.  We're visiting a Japanese Museum and I wonder if I'll see anything related to the Shishu Ladies of Hilo.  Never can tell.
