The library was my best friend growing up. It was the place where I was allowed to "roam free". In high school, volunteering at the library was my National Honor Society project. Every year I'd return and by my junior year I was allowed to recommend books for purchase. That was big stuff. Sometimes I'd even be the first to read the book! College broke the habit of library, except for research, I never returned for the fun reading that I did growing up.
Retirement, what a wonderful luxury. I'm back to the library. Amazing how things have changed. Most times I'm on the Internet searching the library database of books and placing an order. Depending on the availability, the order gets processed within a day or two and it is ready for pick up. What convenience; what expediency.
Here is the URL for the Washington County Library that I believe is the BEST yet. All I did was obtain a library card to use this wonderful library system. My best childhood friend has matured and morphed into a lending library beyond my dreams.
