Once upon a time, there was one large crochet list.
There soon became a disagreement between Deb Arrowood and Rae French on how the list should be run. Deb enjoyed the ever-increasing chit chat about sick dogs, the weather, new grandchildren, etc. Rae wanted the list to be by crocheters, for crocheters, about crocheting.
Thus, on December 15, 1995, the list was split into two groups: Crochet List (headed by Deb Arrowood) and Crochet Partners (founded by Rae French and Shirley Guess).
Unfortunately, there was some hurt feelings on both sides, and for awhile the "other list" wasn't allowed to be
mentioned on each list. This was unfortunate, and a lot of crocheters were caught in the middle of the feud.
Fortunately, things settled down, and the two lists carried on, one with crochet plus chit chat, and the other 100% crochet-oriented. And for the most part, the lists have remained with their original emphasis and preferences.
So, given the history of these two lists, you can understand why the current list-owners (Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss) want to keep Crochet Partners a list of crochet talk only, and let those who wish to chit chat about off topic items chat away on other lists.
